We are the Central California Chapter of Head Huggers, a non-profit community of volunteers who crochet, knit, and sew hats to give away.   This chapter started in September, 2006.

Projects completed September through December, 2006:

  • We visited with and delivered chemo caps to many of the children undergoing cancer treatment in the Pediatric Oncology department of the Children's Hospital of Central CA.

  • We visited with and delivered many hats to warm the heads of the long term care patients at John C. Fremont Hospital's Ewing.

  • We met with the administration of Mariposa County's CASA  and delivered an abundant and whimsical selection of childrens' hats.

  •  We met with the Mountain Crisis services of Mariposa, and provided enough children's  hats in all shapes, colors, and sizes to meet their immediate needs.

Fiber arts projects we anticipate in 2007 include knitted, crocheted, or sewn hats, booties, mittens, and blankets for the Sacramento Childrens' Crisis Nursery.

Our special thanks go to the Yarn Fairies, Carol and Kathy, both from Long Beach, CA, whose magnanimous sharing of their yarn stashes have spearheaded these and other gift giving ventures.

Old knitters never die, they just unravel.
