Our Hats are Off...

In September, 2006, Farside Chapel took a special interest in Head Huggers, a non-profit community of volunteers who crochet, knit, and sew hats to give away.

With that in mind, please understand we took off the Farside Chapel hat, and put on the Headhugger hat when we started a Central California branch of Headhuggers which we call the Yarn Farm.  All donations follow the Headhugger guidelines and submit to their leadership.

Projects completed for Headhuggers 2006-2009:

  • We delivered hundreds of chemo caps to Children's Hospital Central CA for children undergoing cancer treatment in the Pediatric Oncology Department.
  • We delivered twenty or more hats to warm the heads of the long term care patients at John C. Fremont Hospital's Ewing.
  • We delivered twenty to thrity children's hats to Mariposa County's CASA.
  • We delivered children's hats to Mountain Crisis services of Mariposa.
  • We shipped 25 hats and 25 pairs of mittens Craycroft Youth Center a much needed branch of the Fresno Rescue Mission.

Yarn Requirements

You will need approximately 100-200 yards for child sizes; about 200-300 yards for adult sizes.  Exact amount will depend on hat size and yarn guage.  Some helpful sizing information. The length for hats, measured from crown to rim of brim, varies from child sizes of 6 1/2 inches to adult sizes of anywhere between 7 1/2 inches to 9 1/2 inches, depending on style.
